Hmm, expressing Zindell through visual cinematic art might be difficult, but I've given the concept much thought myself. o_o Actually, I partially agree on the 'animation' part, but I would not let an eastern studio anywhere near the scrïpt. Rather, I'd see a western studio wholly uninfluenced by asian animation--and rich in its originality--make the attempt.. and with an immense budget at that. Since, through animation the otherwise strictly concrete conveying of images are left more open to artistic and less realistic expressions. That is, an animated movie(drawn, not CGI) lies between a book and a real-action movie, in my opinion. Hmm.. It could work with Tim Burton, but it would lack the .. majesty.. the breathtaking awe of vast cosmos and spiritual complexity.. I don't think Peter Jackson has what it takes to properly appreciate certain finesses within the science-fiction genre enough to make it a wholly satisfying movie either. Here, a visual and contemporary approach more like in Spielberg's(/Kubrick's) Artificial Intelligence(2001) would fit, I think, although the Tim Burton-esque element of fairytales and imagery(present in A.I.) would have to give room for a prominent, yet underlying harsh reality. Hmm, it would anyway be enriching, for better or worse, if the books had been filmatized. ![]() Have you seen X-Men 3: The Last Stand? In that movie, Cameron Bright played the young boy in the research center with the ability to counter the powers of others. I didn't like the movie that well, but upon seeing Bright in this role; clad in pure white, and bald.. Hanuman li tosh instantly came to mind. o_O --Last edited by Zephon on 2008-03-13 03:47:33 --

I have to agree with you, Cameron Bright would make a good hanuman li tosh. I would like to retract what i said about Danlo being played by johnny depp. i would much rather see Mark Dacascos in that role. He did an amazing job playing Eric Draven in "The Crow: Stairway to heaven" and has also played in "Brotherhood of the Wolf" "John Woo's Stranglehold" and "Iron Chef America" Spielburg? maybe. Just maybe. I don't know if he could do it by himself. I think he would have problems with the more mystical elements (i.e. the manifold) but if he had a good helper, say, Vincent Ward (director of "What Dreams May Come") I could see it working well. though I wouldn't want to have him (Ward) be the primary director by any means. I just finished reading "The Lightstone" for the first time and I could see Burton working on that. (even though with a burton treatment it would get darker, i don't know as that would be a bad thing.) --Last edited by Ryan Foster on 2008-03-15 00:42:40 -- |

I couldn't recall Mark Dacascos from "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven", but he would make a great Danlo, I agree. (Maybe a great Mallory as well, with a tad longer hair.) Gah, I'm so bad at remembering actors.. I wish there was a large gallery someplace with relevant suggestions. Heh. Hmm.. it's good that you're suggesting, though. Actually, I'm not so sure myself if Spielberg could've done it properly. I fear you'd be seeing all the delicate inter-character relationship changes as overaffective dramacheese. And Spielberg would most likely try to change/simplify a lot of concepts into what he would deem "satisfying for a broader audience". .. sacrificing deep, artistic, mystical elements(as you said) for easier to comprehend family-FX. I'd have a seizure at that. x_x Still, though, he's not too bad when it comes to grandiosity. Sadly, I'm not familiar with Vincent Ward. ![]() I've been thinking on a Neverness movie since my last post, and find I'm liking the prospect more and more every day. o_O Damn, that aggravating premonition of a flawed work, should those with better qualification do it instead of us truly valuing his lyrical prose. Imagine; Neverness could be told by a mediocre and unlyrical author, and it would still be moderately good for the sheer originality and complexity of scope and story. Gah, I feel the same is nearly inevitable when it comes to a movie. ó_ò And when the credits finally roll, we will be left with a sense of potential having been poured straight down the drain. Makes me want to give a shot at directing a movie. almost. >_o
