Hello all!

Firstly i would like to give thanks where it is due for the creation of a forum to discuss the works of David Zindell. His works have provided some great (and enlightening) talking points amongnst my friends in the know, and i am looking forwards to hearing some new opinions.

For me Neverness and the Reqiem series occupy a special place in my heart. I discovered Neverness back in high school. At the time i was into fantasy and historical fiction in a big way, and i was well and truly blown away by the intensity and depth of Zindell's
sci-fi world making. It was only at the begining of 2007 that i returned to finish the Requiem trilogy... and WOW! It was exactly what i needed. At the time i was going through a bit of a spiritual awakening, getting back into my meditation and generally getting about restoring my faith in humanity. Reqiem felt a bit like a mirror into my soul... and it was bloody addictive, i ended up finishing the whole series in a bit over a week.

Hello!  It is, as always, good to hear about enthusiasm concerning Zindell, but also, I'm intrigued so as to how similarly our discovery of his works occurred.
You see, I read Neverness during the last year of jr. high, and acquired "A Requiem.." near the end of 2006. I read on until all I thought/dreamt of was Danlo, Hanuman and their endeavours.
In a huge lot of ways, Zindell writes the most realistic science-fiction I know of so far.

It took me seventeen years to finally acquire all the books in the requium for homo sapiens. I would love to see David Zindell return to the universe he lovingly created.  Tell us the story of Kalinda of the Flowers, go back in time 3,000 years to when she still wore flesh and walked beneath the triple moons of Quallar.  Did she ever meet Horthy H.? Did she try to kill him? did he help her become a godess? how did he know about her love of ancient poetry? Were they ever lovers? Tell us the full story of the Society of Warrior Poets, do for them as you have the order of mystic mathmaticians.  Let the smell of Kana oil seep from the pages of a new novel, by God!

I've always wondered what happened to the ronin pilot Sivan and the warrior-poet Malaclypse when they entered the Entity's nebula?  Were they tested too?  The only warrior-poets ever to wear both the red rings in the same area of space, and Zindell leaves us hanging. foo.

"What of Sivan wi Mawi Sarkissan and the warrior-poet, then? Have they been tested as I have? Will they remain here too?"
"I really can't tell you about them, you know."

from a conversation between Danlo and Kalinda (as Tamara)
